School Counselor

Jesse Hentges' Biography

My name is Jesse Hentges and I became Elementary Counselor at Blair Oaks Elementary School in 2012. Prior to coming to Blair Oaks, I was a Teacher then Elementary Counselor for Eugene Elementary School. I live in Jefferson City with my husband Randy and four children Kadence (17), Hunter (15), Harper (10) and Brielle (5). My degree, Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education Grades 1-6, was earned in 2004 from Lincoln University. I received my Masters of Education degree in School Counseling in 2012 also from Lincoln University. I am certified for grades K-8. In addition to my counseling responsibilities, I also teach CharacterPlus to PK-2 students. It is my privilege to provide a full range of guidance and counseling services to students at Blair Oaks RII Elementary School. I am committed to working with each student to promote academic and social success.

Counseling Philosophy

The comprehensive guidance and counseling program is an integral part of Blair Oaks RII Elementary School District's total educational program. It is developmental by design and includes sequential activities organized and implemented by professional school counselors with the active support of parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and the community. As a developmental program, it addresses the needs of all students by facilitating their academic, career, and personal/social development as well as helping to create a positive and safe learning climate in our school. This is done by covering safety, bullying, drug and alcohol awareness, character, study skills, transitions, tattling vs. reporting, choices, self-esteem, friendship, feelings, acceptance and tolerance, as well as career exploration. At the same time, the program assists students as they face issues and resolve problems that may prevent their healthy development and social interaction.

From the Counselor

Happy November!!!! It is hard to believe that we are already in November. The kiddos are doing a great job in Counseling class and I am impressed with their excitement and enthusiasm!!!

For the month of November we will focus on what being respectful looks like, making choices that help us to feel successful and confident, having a positive attitude and being thankful. I am very excited about all of the uplifting topics this month and I hope that the kids will be as well!!!

Don't forget to keep practicing Mindfulness, it is good for our hearts and our brains. If you need some help check out the Mindful Moments document to see what we have been doing in Counseling class.

As always please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. Remember that I am a resource so if your family is experiencing any changes or your kiddo is struggling with something please let me know so that I can help them navigate through.
