Franny Schell

Biography:

I graduated from UCM in Warrensburg with a degree in Elementary Education. Before my children were born, I taught in the Jefferson City Public School District for six years. After my daughters were born, I chose to be a stay-at-home mother. I did a great deal of subbing before I was fortunate enough to be hired here at Blair Oaks. It is my pleasure to have been teaching Title 1 at Blair Oaks R-II School District for the past thirteen years.

My husband and I have been blessed with thirty-eight years of marriage. We have two daughters. Annie is married, has three beautiful children and is a registered nurse. Theresa is a second grade teacher. We enjoy spending a lot of time with our family.

I teach in the elementary on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  I look forward to working with your student and helping them achieve academic success.

Title I Reading

Blair Oaks R-II School District receives Title I funding for reading programs in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. Supplemental reading instruction that is offered through Title I is in addition to regular classroom reading. Franny Schell, Reading Teacher, and Lindsey Reichart, Title I Reading Specialist, work closely with your child's classroom teacher to design appropriate instruction. A variety of teaching strategies and materials is offered depending upon each child's strengths and weaknesses. The Title I program provides extra time for reading through both push-in (assistance given in the classroom) and pull-out (students are taken out of the classroom to work in a separate area) methods.

The Title I program encourages parents to be involved in their children's education. Research has proven that parental participation in schooling improves student learning. Most Title I reading students have books sent home to read with a family member. Throughout the school year, Title I offers instruction for parents and provides information on how you can help your child with homework and to improve reading skills. Creative ideas make learning a family fun activity.
